Holstein resident, Walter Eckhardt, 91, died, Monday, December 8, 2008 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Services will be Friday, December 12, 2008 at 2 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein, NE with Pastor Harold King officiating. Burial will be in the First St. Paul Church Cemetery in Holstein, NE with military rites. Visitation will be Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE and one hour before service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Walter was born August 22, 1917, in a sodhouse in Farnam, NE to Conrad and Mary (Kanzler) Eckhardt. He married Pauline Blayney on April 10, 1941; they were married for over 67 years. He served in Army Air Corps during WWII from May 20, 1942 to November 15, 1945. He was self employed as a farmer for over 60 years. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein, NE, the Eagles Aerie 592, and the American Legion both in Hastings, NE. He is survived by his wife Pauline, of Holstein, NE, 3 daughters, Marcella Haller of Palmyra, NE, Mary Lyberis and husband Robert of Lincoln, NE and Patty Buhr and husband Jerry of Hastings, NE. 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. 1 brother Raymond Eckhardt of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Carol Eckhardt, 1 son-in-law, Richard Haller, 1 brother and 2 sisters. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Holstein, NE, or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
