Stanley "Stan" Earl Schroder

January 22, 1953 — May 21, 2026

Grand Island, NE

Stanley Earl Schroder, age 73, passed May 21, 2026 in Grand Island, NE.

Lovingly known as “Stan the Man,” as he was named after the famous baseball player Stan Musial. Stan was born to Earl and Florence Schroder on January 22, 1953 in Grand Island, NE. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith as an infant. The family moved to Kearney where he attended Zion Lutheran School, K-6th grade, and was confirmed before attending Long Fellow Junior High.

He loved to play baseball. Every summer he spent more time at a field than at home. When there was a free weekend from ball games, the family enjoyed camping at many parks. Stan and his dad enjoyed fishing in the rivers. He attended Kearney Senior High School from 1967-1971, where he lettered in football and basketball. He spent many summers playing Kearney Legion ball. Stan attended Kearney State College. From there, he went on and worked as a route driver for Coors Beer.

A passion of his was teaching himself to play guitar. The household heard Jim Croce, 3 Dog Night, and Crosby Stills music a lot. During family gatherings, the guitar was our source of entertainment. Stan loved to play the latest hits, but the favorite song for the nieces and nephews was “Porcupine Pie.”

Stan married Julie Schulz in 1982 in York, NE and lived in Kearney, NE. After a few years, they relocated to Grand Junction, CO where Stan worked for Colorado Beverage. Grand Junction became home for over 20 years and is where they brought home their daughter Stephanie Schroder and continued to raise both Stephanie and Nathan Schroder (step son).

Stan was well known throughout the golfing community as many nights and weekends were spent out on the courses for league and tournaments. He also participated in a basketball league and spent time as a coach in the kid’s younger years. The love for all kinds of sports continued to live on and was a huge part of his and his family’s life. He was always on the sideline or courtside supporting the kids in their many sports. His daughter continues to cheer for all their favorite sports teams. Outside of all the sports, the family frequently were in the mountains camping and fishing, just like he enjoyed with his Dad. The love for Colorado has always been in his heart.

When his marriage dissolved in Colorado, he moved back to Grand Island to be closer to his aging parents. He retired from the Hall County Housing Authority after several years of employment. Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 2 years ago would not stop him from playing golf at Jack Rabbit course in Grand Island. If he faltered while playing, he’d say the wind was to blame. He was a lifelong Husker fan.

Though deeply missed, his memory lives on in every game played, every song strummed, and in the hearts of all who knew him. His greatest legacy was the love he shared for his parents, his sisters, and his daughter’s family. He was guided by his faith and his life echoed the promise of Revelations 2:10. ‘Be faithful even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of Life.’

His final resting place will be in Grand Junction, CO.

His parents Earl and Florence and his sister Sue Bolin preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory is his sister Connie (Don) Coatman, brother in-law Jim Bolin, daughter Stephanie Schroder, step son Nathan Schroder, grandchildren Kynlee, Collin, Christain, nieces and nephews Amy Schillinger, Wendy (Chris) Casper, Phil (Alison) Coatman, Justin (Paige) Bolin, Heather (Luke) Estes, and several cousins.
