Shirley Ann Suchanek

Shirley A., Suchanek, 92, of Grand Island died Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Bickford Cottage in Grand Island. Private family memorial services will be held at Apfel Funeral Home with burial at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Mrs. Suchanek was born on December 18, 1932, in St. Paul, NE, the daughter of John and Anna (Johansen) Teng. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1950.

She was united in marriage to Anthony G. Suchanek on November 6, 1950, in St. Libory. Mr. Suchanek died in April of 1988. She was employed at Best Western and then at Dad’s Janitorial and Principal Financial Group. She retired on November 30, 1996. She filled her retirement tending to her flowers and baking cookies for her grandchildren. Shirley was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Shirley is survived by two sons: Jerry (Cherri) Suchanek and Michael (Gina) Suchanek; one daughter, Sandra (Roger) Brown; grandchildren: John (Mel) Brown, Kelly (Josh) Cole, Jamie (Michelle Liske) Brown, Mandy (Roger) Spexarth, Jeremy Suchanek, Justin Suchanek, Josh (Lindsay) Suchanek, Garrett (Rebekah) Suchanek, and Grant (Avery Hall) Suchanek; great grandchildren: Megan (Tyler), Mackenzie, Dalton, Morgan, Jadyn (Claire), Jaryk (Kaylee), Erin, Harrison, Jocelyn, Noah, Leyten, Graysen, Hudson, Knox, Madison, and Katelyn; and great-great grandchildren: Braxton, Brooks, Shirley, and Amelia.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, John Gene Suchanek; brother and sister-in-law: Raymond and Irene Teng; and great grand daughter, Ellie Rose Suchanek.
