Shirley Ann Smith

Shirley Ann Smith, 87, of Hastings died on October 21, 2026. Memorial services will be on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings with Pastor John Mueller officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings.

Shirley was born on June 8, 1939 in Hastings to Marvin and Eloise (Kerr) Jones. She grew up in Hastings and attended Hastings Public Schools, graduating in 1957. On August 17, 1958, she was united in marriage to Darrel “Buster” Smith at Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center, NE. To this union four children were born. Shirley raised their four children and was a stay at home mom.

Shirley was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. She was a member of Chaparrals Motorcycle Club.

She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. Her favorite thing was keeping the grand kids over. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband.

She is survived by her children: Randy (Brenda) Smith, Cindy (Keith) Sadd, Dan (Joan), Smith, Tim (Candi) Smith; grandchildren: Jennifer (Justin) Bregenzer, Darren (Sarah) Smith, Melissa Buss, Kimberly Buss, Morgan Smith, Logan Smith, and Hannah Smith; great-grandchildren: Sophia Smith, Gavin Smith, Aiden Smith, Maddox Smith, Preston Buss, Carson Buss, Amaya Buss, Theron Bregenzer, Leona Bregenzer; many other family members and long time friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister: Sharon Dreher; brothers-in-law: Alvin Wenske, Ken Dreher, Len Jungels; and sister-in-law: Mary Ellen.
