Ruth Jane Wieser

Ruth J. (Sherlock) Wieser (Reimers), 94, of Cairo died on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island after a short illness. Funeral Services will be at 11AM on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Darrell Holzinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo. Visitation will be an hour prior to the start of the service. Memorials are suggested to the Cairo Quick Response Team or the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department. Per Ruth’s wishes, casual attire is asked to be worn. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ruth was born on January 1, 1932, in Angora, NE the daughter of Frank and Gladys (Brown) Sherlock. She was raised in Cairo and graduated from Cairo High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Wayne Reimers to which three sons were born: Kenneth, Dennis, and Daniel. They lived on a small dairy farm east of Cairo until 1966 and then moved to Cairo. After Wayne’s death in 1967 she later married Dan Wieser and moved to Florida and Little Rock, AR until returning to Cairo in 1993.

Ruth enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting and needlepointing (to which she made many beautiful pieces), fishing, camping and traveling. She worked at the Army Ammunition Plant and managed a KOA camp in Florida for several years. Upon returning to Cairo, she worked for Krauss Roofing until her retirement. After retirement she began volunteering at the Veterans Administration for 13 years and was involved in various other volunteer activities. She was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club.

Ruth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis and Jayne Reimers of Ravenna and Daniel and Kathy Reimers of Cairo; five grandchildren: Steven Reimers of Stuttgart, Germany, Sonya (Mike) Jeanneret of Axtell, Danny (Katie) Reimers Jr. of West Allis, WI, Bob (Joanna) Reimers of Grand Island, and Brian Reimers of Cairo; four greatgrandchildren: Joshua and Shepard Jeanneret of Axtell and Oscar and Hazel Reimers of West Allis, WI; sister, Opal Lefever of Ernul, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Reimers; second husband, Dan Wieser; son, Kenneth Reimers; granddaughter, Tammie Reimers; sisters: Pearl Lavender, Janice Thomas, Mary Holder, Barbara Cusick; and her parents.
