Russ Skrdlant, a devoted husband, father, and lifelong farmer whose life was deeply rooted in the soil, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, surrounded by family, following a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Doniphan United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Evans officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, March 6th at the church. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Russ was born in Hastings, Nebraska, and raised primarily in Doniphan, where he learned the value of hard work before he ever finished grade school. He grew up surrounded by the love of his parents, Irvin Donald Skrdlant and Marjorie Gene (Duval) Skrdlant, and alongside his siblings: Raymond (Mary Jo) Skrdlant, Lois (Ken) Nohavec, Marvin (Jane) Skrdlant, and Duane (Sue) Skrdlant.
From a young age, Russ developed a bone-deep connection to the land that would define his entire life. To him, farming wasn’t just a job, it was who he was. He believed in the honesty of the harvest and the quiet dignity of long days spent in the fields. Whether tending crops, fixing a stubborn piece of equipment, or lending a hand to a neighbor, Russ was the backbone of the family farm alongside his brothers and nephew. He was a man of few words, but immense action.
In early February, Russ faced his toughest season yet when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He met his illness the same way he met every challenge in life, with grit, strength, and a refusal to complain. He fought with everything he had, all the way to the very end.
Russ’s legacy lives on in the straight rows of the fields he worked and in the strong character of the family he raised.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Renee (Olson) Skrdlant; his two beloved daughters, Angie Marie Skrdlant and Lindsey Michelle Skrdlant; and his son-in-law, Richard Jaramillo, all of whom were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Raymond (Mary Jo) Skrdlant and Duane (Sue) Skrdlant; many nieces and nephews; and a community made better by having known him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Skrdlant and Marjorie (Duval) Skrdlant; his siblings, Marvin Skrdlant (and Jane Bolling) and Lois (Skrdlant) Nohavec; and his niece, Rebecca Skrdlant.
