Romana Emma Beberniss

Romana E. Beberniss, 90, of Grand Island died Saturday, December 6, 2025, at CHI Health St. Francis. A Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Pastor Holden Barry officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Romana was born on August 27, 1935, in Cornlea, NE to Jack “John” and Larraine (Liewer) Ternus. She attended school at Cornlea. Romana was a longtime cook and retired from the Bunk House after being there for 20 plus years.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth Jaixen on June 30, 1952 in Platte Center. Ken passed away in August of 1977. On July 3, 1982, Romana married Cleo L. Beberniss at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Grand Island.

Romana was a past president and long-time member of the Eagles Club. She was a long-time resident at Primrose in Grand Island and participated in many activities. Her favorite activities were playing cards and Yahtzee. She also liked to bowl and watch football with a PBR in hand. Even in her spare time Romana was busy in the kitchen!

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: David (Jeri) Jaixen of Grand Island, Susan Kowalski of Grand Island, Linda Woldruff of Tucson, AZ, Cathy (Kevin) Hickey of Caldwell, TX, Ronald (Vicki) Jaixen of Kearney, and Margie Wilson of Lincoln; stepdaughter, Candi (Jeff) Launer of Kearney; son-in-law, Ken Lunberry; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; and siblings: Jean Whitten, Jack Ternus, Margie Husak, Carol Stephens, Mina Ternus, and Lois Ternus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Kenneth Jaixen; second husband, Cleo Beberniss; daughter, Diane Lunberry; granddaughter, Brenda Kowalski; great granddaughter, Savannah Herrold; great grandson, Chandler Keezer; sons-in-law, Richard Kowalski and John Woldruff; siblings: Judy Ternus, Ed Ternus, Tom Ternus, and Melvin Ternus.
