Renee Mildred Gloe, 83, of Wood River, Nebraska died on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Grand Island with her loving family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10AM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River with Reverend Stanley Ejike Madubuike celebrating. Inurnment will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wood River EMTs or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River.
Renee was born on April 4, 1942, in Loup City, Nebraska, to Frank and Mildred (Peters) Curlo. She graduated from Ashton High School and later completed flight attendant training in St. Louis, Missouri. After returning to Nebraska, she met the love of her life, Donald Gloe. The couple was united in marriage on February 19, 1966, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. They made their home on the family farm near Wood River.
Renee was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who poured her love into her children and granddaughters; they were truly her pride and joy. She was a talented cook and baker, and enjoyed sewing, tole painting, quilting, and needle point. An avid gardener, Renee created beautiful, sprawling flower gardens on the family homestead. After raising her children, she was employed at Hornady Manufacturing, Triad Corporation, and the Hall County Treasurer Office.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Colleen Gloe of Berthoud, CO; their daughters: Madelyn Gloe of Denver, CO, and Audrey (Dominic) Mascio and great-granddaughter, Cecilia Mascio of New Smyrna Beach, FL. She is also survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Mike Kalvoda of Omaha; their daughters: Olivia, Avery, and Allison Kalvoda, all of Omaha. Additional survivors include her sister; Sharon (Dan) Astrones of Grand Island, NE; brothers: Don Curlo of Boelus, NE and Jim (Jeanie) Curlo of Ashton, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Renee was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Don; and her brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Deb Curlo.
