Phyllis M. Lloyd

Phyllis Mae Lloyd, 93, of Hastings, NE died on May 26, 2025 at Mary Lanning Health Care.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings with Reverend Ben Hanne officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM in the Alma Cemetery in Alma, NE. Vistitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, June 2nd at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings, NE. Memorials are suggested to Grace United Methodist Church or the Alma United Methodist Church.

Phyllis was born on February 11, 1932 to James and Grace (Burkey) Walker in Alma, NE. She graduated from Huntley High School before going to Kearney State College where she would earn her Bachelors and Masters degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Lexington, Stamford, Huntley, Republican City, and 20 years at Alma Public schools. Retiring from Alma Public Schools in 1997 after 40 years of teaching. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Alma Library.

She was an avid bridge player, playing several days a week. She also enjoyed reading, watching Husker athletics – especially volleyball, and traveling. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, National Education Association and the Nebraska State Education Association. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren in all their athletic and music activities.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (John) Gaspers of Hastings, and Peggy (Ed) Lowe of Shelton; grandchildren, Katie (Ryan) Luther, Audrey (Nate) Parks, Brad (Casey) Lowe and Dan (Danielle) Lowe; great grandchildren, Nicklyn and Nolan Luther, Kinsley Parks, and Cecilia, Colette and Wesley Lowe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson 1st Lt. Kevin Gaspers, and sister, Virginia Wahlander.
