Orval was born on March 12, 1936, in Callaway, Nebraska to Reuben and Dorothy (Miles) Holdeman. His mother passed away when he was 10 shortly after his younger brother Norman was born. Reuben married Jennie Belle Forster and then continued to raise the family in the Cozad area. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1954.

He entered the Air Force in 1956 and served in the Vietnam War. He retired in 1976 after 20 years of military service where he proudly served his country.

He married Faye Earles on May 31, 1958, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. To this union were born: Dusty (Orval Eugene II) and Suzette Rene. They lived in many states during his Air Force years. Later they divorced. Eventually returning to Hastings, Nebraska to be with his son Dusty and family.

He moved to the farm South of Rosemont with Suzette and Don (husband) and family. There he and Don restored his 1946 Chevy and Farmall tractor. He loved tinkering around the farm and did odd carpentry and building maintenance jobs after his retirement.

He married Peggy Thaut in 2000 and they eventually moved to Hastings. They attended North Shore Assembly of God and were active members of the Keenager's group which he loved. He enjoyed spending time with Peggy's kids and their families.

He loved the Lord and to share the gospel. He was involved in prison, church and helped ministries over the years. He loved church and the church family. He didn't know a stranger and loved to live out the gospel in his everyday life through a kind word, deed or over a cup of coffee.
