Mary E Hostler

Mary E Hostler, 91, of Grand Island, NE died on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Apfel Funeral Home with Shella Choi officiating. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 18th from 5-7 P.M. at Apfel Funeral Home.

Mary was born on November 15, 1934, at Grand Island, Nebraska to Henry and Anna (Soehl) Schroeder. She grew up in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the Class of 1952. She then went on and attended the Grand Island Business College.

She was united in marriage to Bernard Hostler on June 10, 1956, at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mary held various jobs first as secretary for First National Bank; she then stayed home and raised her family; as a cook at Western Charloin; and lastly at Bosselmans before her retirement.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island.

Mary enjoyed knitting, cross stitching, traveling, reading and gambling at the casino.

She is survived by her sons: Steven Hostler of Alda, NE, Jerry (Marla) Hostler of Grand Island, NE, and David (Cindie) Hostler, Central City, NE; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Schroeder, Sioux Falls, SD.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard; daughter-in-law, Elaine Hostler; brothers, Don and Bob (Joyce) Schroeder
