Marvin Peters, 89, of Grand Island died Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Tabitha at Prairie Commons, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Pastor Carl Eliason officiating. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Marvin was born on October 23, 1936, at the family farm in Merrick County, the son of William and AlVira “ElVera” (Bader) Peters. He was raised on the family farm in Merrick County. Marvin was baptized on November 15, 1936, and he was confirmed on April 2, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms, NE.

Marvin attended the county school District 42 and then he attended Zion Lutheran School and finished through the eighth grade. He then attended Grand Island Senior High School and graduated in 1954.

Marvin was united in Marriage to Marlene Kunze on June 24, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE. In 1956 he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in California, Texas, and was in Washington State when he received overseas orders to serve at Kindley Air Force base in Bermuda.

Upon being back in Grand Island, NE he attended the Grand Island Business School. He then worked at Meadow Gold Dairy as the office manager. When the G.I. Bill was reinstated, he attended Kearney State College for his degree. He briefly worked at a CPA firm and then worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Norfolk, NE. Later Marvin was transferred to the Grand Island, NE office. Marvin retired on January 1, 2000.

When Marvin and Marlene moved back to Grand Island, they joined Peace Lutheran Church where Marvin served as an usher, a lay minister, and treasurer.

He is survived by his children: Melissa (Richard) Howell of Omaha and Michelle Jacobsen of Fremont; grandchildren: Megan (Tyler) Neuharth, Thomas Howell, Joel (Ashley) Jacobsen and Neil Jacobsen; great-grand sons: Archer and Carson Jacobsen; and great-granddaughters: Mackenzie and Madison Howell; brothers: Billie and Larry; and sister, Bonnie.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; his parents; brothers: Ralph and Roy; and sisters: LaVerna and Rosella.
