Lawrence T. Kapustka

October 6, 1941 — March 27, 2014

Lawrence Thomas Kapustka, 72, of Grand Island, formerly of Cozad, and

Grand Junction Colorado, died unexpectedly, Thursday March 27, 2014, in

Grand Island.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island with the Rev. Michael McDermott officiating. Inurnment of the ashes will be at a later date. Visitation hours will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to the Family to be designated at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Lawrence, (Larry) was born October 6, 1941, in Ewing, Nebraska, the son of

Raymond and Mary (Leahy) Kapustka. Larry attended school in

North Loop, Broken Bow and graduated from Ord High School in 1959.

Upon graduation, he served in the Air Force and later returned to Cozad,

Nebraska. He met and married Leslie (Hanson) at Cozad, on September

25, 1961. He was employed by Monroe Auto Company for 15 years and

later went to Sperry New Holland, in Lexington where he worked until its

closing in 1986. He accepted a job at Sunstrand Corporation, in Grand

Junction, Colorado as a maintenance electrician, up until his retirement. In

October, 2005, he and his wife moved to Grand Island to be close to family.

Survivors include his wife Leslie, two daughters Deborah (Mike) Monson of

Wood River, Nebraska; Lynn (Steve) Wiese of Wilbur, Nebraska; and one

son, David Kapustka of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandchildren Bailey and

Shannon Manhart; three step-grandchildren Melinda (Brad) Hecker,

Andrew (Heather) Monson, Jared Monson; and four step-grandchildren

Avery, Adriana, Konner and Madsen. Others left to cherish his memory

are his brother Robert (Joan) Kapustka; sister Patricia (Randy) Dishman;

sisterinlaw, Mardy (Dave) Schley; sisters-in-law, Dolores (Laurence) Rosendahl and Marilyn (Mike) St. Onge; brother-in-law, Bruce Hanson; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Mary, and a brother, Jerome.

He had many interests and talents. He had a great appreciation for nature

and all its beauty. Larry liked to fish, hunt for arrowheads, garden, and

feed the squirrels. He was a talented craftsman and marksman. He could

fix or make anything out of wood or metal. Larry loved his family dearly

and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
