Apr 30, 1941 — Oct 9, 2026

Kenneth D. Enck, age 85, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Brandon Bachle officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, October 13th also at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Breakthrough T1D formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.

Ken was born on April 30, 1941, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Bonnie (Corl) and Ward Enck. In 1947, the family moved to North Platte, Nebraska, where Ken spent his childhood and graduated from high school in 1959.

On June 2, 1959, Ken enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1963. Following the death of his mother, he returned to Grand Island and began his career in management with Sears Automotive.

Always willing to pursue new opportunities, Ken later moved to Nevada, where he worked at the Nevada Test Site north of Las Vegas. He eventually returned to Grand Island to attend business school, graduating in 1968. After completing his studies, he returned to Las Vegas and worked as an accountant for the Flamingo Corporation before joining Hilton International Hotel and Casino.

Although he enjoyed his work in Nevada, Nebraska remained home in his heart. Ken returned to Grand Island, where he met and married Rose Curry. Through their marriage, Ken proudly adopted Rose's three children, Carla, Sheila, and Michael, and together they welcomed their daughter, Amy.

For most of his career, Ken worked in sales and sales management, where his strong work ethic and gift for building relationships served him well. For a period of time, he also served with the Grand Island Police Department. He was a well-liked and respected police officer whose dedication to the community was evident to all who knew him. Had he enjoyed the politics that accompanied the position, he often said he likely would have remained with the department until retirement.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Ward Enck; his brothers, Ron, Don, and Jim Enck; and his sister, Linda Adamson.

He leaves behind his children, Carla Ochsner (Tod), Sheila Bargenquast (Scott), Michael Enck, and Amy Green (Brian); his grandchildren, Ashley Patton, Alexis Luft, Nolan Green, Zachery Fischbach, Sadie Green, Jacob Fischbach, Elizabeth Axtell, Jayden Green, and Jackson Green; and his great-grandchildren, Riley Patton, Parker Patton, and Amori Castillo-Green.

Ken will be remembered for his service to his country, his commitment to his family, his strong work ethic, and the many friendships he built throughout his life. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and cherished the time spent with those he loved most. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
