Jimmy “Jim” Dean Winfrey, 90, formerly of Grand Island, NE died on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Emerald Nursing and Rehab Mercy in Omaha, NE.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gollaher Chapel, with Rev. April Wegehaupt officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM to the start of the services. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Jim was born on July 10, 1934 to Ray and Marie Winfrey at Wolbach, NE. He grew up and was educated in the Wolbach and Grand Island area. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1953.
He was inducted into the Army on August of 1954. He served with the 29th Engineer Battalion overseas. He received his honorable discharge in August 1956.
He married Loy Barr on August 22, 1956 at Wolbach, NE. He attended the Southeast Community College and graduated in 1958. He worked for Lutheran Memorial Hospital, lived in Hastings, NE and worked as plant operations and maintenance director for Hastings Public Schools and then as plant operations director at Saint Francis Medical Center. He retired from Saint Francis in 1995.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Eagles, Legion and Platt-Duetsch.
He is survived by his son, Scott (Cherie) Winfrey of Omaha; daughter, Renea Hogan of Bailey, CO; four grandchildren: Ben (Jordan) Hogan of Bailey, CO, Ashley (Jeremy) Ertz of Lincoln, NE, Colin Kitson of Lincoln, NE, and Caitlin Kitson of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren, Rylee and Jordynn Ertz of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Don, sister-in-law, Mary Ann, and son-in-law, Dave Hogan.
