Jerry L. Clingenpeel, 74, of Grand Island, NE passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at his home after a courageous battle with ALS.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Monday, February, 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Paul Hofrichter officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery Columbarium. Memorials are suggested to Holt International Adoption Agency.
Jerry was born on May 20, 1948 in Peru, Indiana to Robert and Catherine (Pepple) Clingenpeel. He grew up in Avilla, Indiana and received his education from Avilla High School with the Class of 1966. He then went on and earned his bachelor's degree from Manchester College in 1970.
He was united in marriage to Sandra Quam on September 5, 1981 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. After which the couple lived in Grafton, North Dakota where he worked at a store manager for JC Penny’s. The couple moved to Minto, North Dakota. After Skagway moved the family to Grand Island he eventually ended up as a project manager for Chief Industries.
He enjoyed reading, storm chasing and was involved with the Amateur Radio Club in helping with the Harvest of Harmony parade and the fair. He could always be found carrying around his radio.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Clingenpeel; children, Adam Clingenpeel, Anya Clingenpeel, Alaina (Gus) Hamilton and Parker Clingenpeel; granddaughter, Hadley Hamilton; step grandson, Bryson Wagner; and his mother-in-law, Faye Quam.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, Clinton Quam.
