Jean Marie Powell

Jean Marie (Kimle) Powell, 89, of Kenesaw passed away on June 5, 2025, at Providence Place Memory Care in Hastings. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kenesaw, with Pastor Paul Duffy officiating. Burial will follow at Kenesaw Cemetery in Kenesaw. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 3-5 p.m at Apfel Funeral Home in Kenesaw.

Jean was born on June 22, 1935, to Emil and Florence (Schlachter) Kimle in Hastings, NE. She grew up on a farm southwest of Kenesaw and attended Shiloh School, St. Paul’s Lutheran Parochial School, and graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1952. Jean was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 1948.

She was united in marriage to Jack Powell on November 1, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kenesaw. While a member at St. Paul’s she served as church secretary for several years. She was a member of the Ladies Bible Study, Fellowship League, Alter Guild, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. In Jack and Jean’s marriage they were blessed with three children.

She is survived by her children: Douglas (Jeannie) Powell, Debra Jean (Greg) Adams, David (Theresa) Powell, all of Kenesaw; grandchildren: Nick (Lisa) Powell, Shane Powell, Zach (Stacy) Adams, Megan (Trevor) Stickels, Josh (Alexa) Powell, Josiah Powell; great-grandchildren: Ellie, Lydia, and Madeline Jean Adams, Abraham, Theodore, Georgia Jean Stickels, Grace, Gabe, Ben, and Evie Powell; sister-in-law: Bev Powell; brother-in-law: Lee Powell; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including the Providence staff and her fellow Providence residents.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 70 years, Jack; brother: Duane Kimle; sisters-in-law: LaDonna Kimle, June Powell; brothers and sisters-in-law: Merle and Charlotte Powell; Dale and Sharon Powell; brother-in-law: Mike Powell.
