James S Reed

James S “Jim” Reed, 91, died on Monday, April 13, 2026. Per his request there will be no visitation or service. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Jim was born in 1935 at Rossie, Iowa the fourth of five children to Sanford and Hattie (Sylvester) Reed.

After high school Jim joined the Air Force and served part of that duty in Korea.

He attended college at the University of New Mexico, University of Colorado, Buena Vista in Iowa and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

In 1961 he was married to Barbara Moe. To this union were born two children, Deborah Jo and Jeffrey J. He also has a daughter, Cristina Haworth, of Sheridan, WY.

In 1968 he married Precious Hofrichter.

Jim was an ambitious entrepreneur using his talents as builder, land developer, business owner, mortgage banker, and realtor. But most of all, he was known for his sense of humor, his integrity, and his generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters.
