Kenesaw resident Jackie (Jack) Dean Powell, 90, died December 19, 2023, at Providence Place Memory Care in Hastings.
Services are Friday, December 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kenesaw with the Pastor Paul Duffy officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 5-7 pm at Apfel Funeral Home in Kenesaw.

Jack Powell was born September 4, 1933, to Warren and Audrey (Roberts) Powell of Kenesaw. He graduated from Kenesaw Public School in 1952. After graduation, he worked in construction at the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot until he was drafted by the US Army in July of 1953. While stationed in Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX, Jack served as a rifle instructor. He married Jean Kimle on November 1, 1953. He served in the army until discharged in June of 1955, and remained in the Army Reserves until 1961. After leaving the service, Jack worked in construction until he began farming full-time. He retired from farming in 2010.
Jack was baptized and confirmed in 1953. He was an active member of the Fellowship League and the Lutheran Layman’s League at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kenesaw. He also served as an elder for the church.
Survivors are his wife, Jean, children Douglas (Jeannie) Powell, Debra (Greg) Adams, and David (Theresa) Powell; grandchildren, Nick (Lisa) Powell, Shane Powell, Zach (Stacy) Adams, Megan (Trevor) Stickles, Josh (Alexa) Powell, and Josiah Powell; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Lydia, and Madeline Adams, Abraham, Theodore, and Georgia Stickles, Grace, Gabe, and Ben Powell, his brother, Lee Powell, brother-in-law Duane Kimle, sister-in-law Beverley Powell, and many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Audrey Powell, his brothers, LaVern Powell, Merle and Charlette Powell, sister-in-law June Powell, Dale and Sharon Powell, Carroll (Mike) Powell, and sister-in-law LaDonna Kimle.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
