Gary E. Markwell, 78, of Hastings died on May 31, 2026, at Mary Lanning Healthcare. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. A luncheon will follow graveside services at the DAV in Hastings.

Gary was born on January 10, 1948, to Hardin “Rusty” and Berdella (Long) Markwell in Centralia, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Connie Thomsen on August 10, 1974. They were married for 51 years. He adopted two children, Brad and Pam.

He worked as a technician at Alltel for 34 years. His passions were Missouri Tigers football and golf. He was a longtime member at Southern Hills Golf Course. He loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks, and traveling to Hawaii, Arizona, and Canada.

He is survived by his wife: Connie; son Brad (Angie) Thomsen; grandchildren: Brandy (Ross) Fenimore, Colten (Anesha) Thomsen, Regina (Aaron) Gatling-Kull, Clinton (Vanessa) Dericks; great-grandchildren: Hunter Dericks, Hadley Dericks, Haven Dericks, Nicholas Gatling-Kull, Brixley Thomsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Pamela Dericks; son-in-law: Kenneth Dericks; sister: Diane Galloway.

Gary was a devoted and loving husband. He loved his family unconditionally. He was such a kind and gentle person. He is in heaven above, with no pain, shining on all of us.
