Evelyn R. Roth

Evelyn R. Roth, 96 of Wood River died on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at CHI Health St. Francis surrounded by her family.

Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Sonlight Bible Fellowship in Cairo, NE with Darrell Holzinger and Dan Boshart officiating. A private family burial will be in the Wood River Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, December 26th at Sonlight Bible Fellowship. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Evelyn was born on April 3, 1929 in Wood River, NE to Homer and Nettie (Jantzi) Schweitzer. She grew up in Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School with the Class of 1947. She was united in marriage to Delmar Roth on June 13, 1948 at the Wood River Mennonite Church. She worked as a school teacher, Nurse Aide at the old Lutheran hospital, Bosselmans corporate offices, and at Country Greenery where she loved taking care of “her” Geraniums.

Her Faith in the Lord was the most important thing in her life. She was a member of Sonlight Bible Fellowship. She also attended Wood River Mennonite Church where she was baptized in her faith. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers.

She is survived by her children: David (Debra) Roth of Cairo, NE, Marvin Roth of Wood River, NE, Debbra (Wes) Reil of Pleasant Dale, NE, Cynthia (Rick) Yoder of Cairo, NE, Douglas (Tracey) Roth of Cairo, NE; grandchildren: Jessica (Marcos) Stoltzfus, Andrew (Raquel) Roth, Joshua Roth, Megan Roth, Caleb Roth, Nate (Mindy) Reil, LaMar (Shea) Reil, Nolan (Eva) Reil, Travis (Kelly) Yoder, Ashley (Landy) Walker, Chelsey (Jacob) Miller, Zachary Roth, Mady (Ethan) Young; 26 great grandchildren; sister: Arla Stutzman of Wood River, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law, Heide Roth, sister, Ramona Keizer, and brothers-in-law, Harley Stutzman and Herman Keizer.
