Eugene F Redding, 87, of Wood River, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, at The Heritage of Sagewood in Grand Island. Memorial service will be 10:30 am Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with Derek Apfel officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Grand Island City Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be 5-7 pm Wednesday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Eugene was born on May 4, 1937, in Grand Island, NE to John Benjamin and Fay Leota (Killip) Redding. He grew up in Grand Island and Iowa when he was young.
Eugene married Ethel Clement on September 25, 1954, at St Paul, NE. After which they lived in Grand Island, Wood River, Cotesfield, and back to Wood River during their married years. They were married 70 years to his beloved wife and family meant everything to him. He worked at Nash Finch Co in the Produce Warehouse in Grand Island for 39 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Eagles in Grand Island for many years. Eugene (family name Richard), loved his family time and enjoyed motorcycles, canoeing, fishing, camping, traveling, shuffleboard, skating, dancing, playing games and cards, and being ornery at times.
Eugene is survived by his wife Ethel Redding of Wood River, children: Gerald (Joan) Redding of Alda, Steven Redding of Wood River, Sherry (Bradley) Desel of Wood River, and Jeanine Harders of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and one on the way; and many loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Allen Redding; grandson, Cody George Redding; brothers: Everet, Art, John, Kenny, Gene; sisters: Violet, Dorothy, Ethel, Alice, Thelma, Betty, Barb; and sisters-in-law: Gladys, Wanita, Wreatha.
