Duane S. Hinrikus

HASTINGS — Services for Duane Hinrikus, 90, formerly of Columbus will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings. Burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery near Doniphan. Duane passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, May 11, 2025.

He was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Hastings to Edward and Dorothy Hinrikus. He graduated from Juniata High School. He then helped with farming and was in the National Guard for two years. He married Patricia Walsh on June 29, 1957.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was stationed in Chicago, Ill. After moving back to Nebraska, he worked for the Nebraska Roads Department for 20 years as a laydown inspector. He then worked for Goodyear in Norfolk and Great Dane Manufacturing in Wayne.

He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

He loved his family and was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia; his children, Karen (Larry) of Norfolk, Dave (Karol) of Lincoln and Ranee Baker of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Josh and Jarod of Norfolk, Cory of South Carolina, Mandy (Dan) Haig of Stanton and Lindsay of Lincoln; and great-grandchildren Ethan, Levi, Nathan and Meagan of Stanton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mike Hinrikus.

He will be greatly missed.
