Donald “Don” G. Conyers, 75, of Hastings, NE died on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at CHI Health St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, NE. A memorial service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. A time of visitation with family present will be on Wednesday from 5-7 PM at Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First St. Paul’s Lutheran foundation or Hastings Public Schools Foundation. Online Condolences may be left at www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
Don was born on October 14, 1949, in Des Moines, IA to Donald and Kathryn (France) Conyers. He attended Columbus High School graduating with the class of 1969. He went on to attend Wayne State College where he met the love of his life, Dianne Libke. The couple were married on December 22, 1972, in Kingsley, IA. They came to Hastings in 1974, where he worked for 26 years at the Hastings Regional Center in the Industrial Therapy Department. After retiring from the Regional Center, he had a second career driving full time for Hastings Public Schools. He loved driving busloads of preschoolers around Hastings. He was known as the driver of the monkey bus because he had 50 plus stuffed monkeys on board.
Don was an avid Husker fan and faithfully flew his Husker flags in support of the football and volleyball teams. He coached various youth sports teams that his children participated in. Don was a member and instructor for the American Red Cross, member of the HHS Booster Club, Church Council, and was a Teammate Mentor.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Conyers; daughter, Gina Conyers (Paul Kliewer) of Gibbon, NE; son, Troy (Crystal) Conyers of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren: Colin Conyers, Drew Conyers, Jacquobi Kliewer; honorary grandchildren: Emma Schroeder and Levi Schroeder; sisters: Tammy (Walter) Orona and Mary Murray; brother, Bill (Cindy) Conyers; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Barry.
Don will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father, and caring grandfather.
