DeWayne L. Boesen

DeWayne L. Boesen, of Kenesaw, died on September 4, 2025, in Hastings. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kenesaw with pastor Paul Duffy officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or The Children’s Museum of Central Nebraska. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.

DeWayne was born on April 27, 1935, to Alton and Rose (Jensen) Boesen in Boelus, NE. In his younger days he played 1st base on the Boelus baseball team. He graduated from Boelus Public Schools in 1953. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska in 1957.

He was united in marriage to Mary “Jackie” Steinke on December 20, 1957, in Cairo, NE. The couple lived in Kenesaw for 62 years where he worked in multiple business management positions including being the owner of Liberty Tax and past President of Adams County Bank in Kenesaw. He was the mayor of the city of Kenesaw, NE, served on the Kenesaw School Board, and was President of ARC. He was a member of Southern Hills Country Club in Hastings. He was a member and elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Kenesaw and served on the Kenesaw Cemetery Board. He was always an avid Husker fan

He is survived by his wife: “Jackie”; daughters: Debi Boesen, of Hastings; Tami (Neal) Nabower, of Grand Island; son: Brad Boesen of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Anthony (Angie) Nabower, Katie (Shawn) Pfanstiel, Nick Nabower, Evan Boesen, Quinn Boesen; great-grandchildren: Emma, Hannah, Molly, Collin, and Jillian Pfanstiel; Ben and Grayson Nabower; brother: Randall (Joan) Boesen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; son, Scott Boesen; son-in-law, Dave Bosle; brother, Larry Boesen; sister and brother-in-law Janice and John Gossin; and nephew Jeff Gossin.
