Chad Lynn Osburn

March 10, 1961 — April 30, 2021

Chad Lynn Osburn, 60, of Cairo died Friday, April 30, 2021 at CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Cairo United Methodist Church with Rev. Cat Love officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Cairo United Methodist Church.



Chad was born on March 10, 1961 in Valentine, NE, to Dick and Louise (Newland) Osburn. He grew up in Cairo and attended the Cairo School which later became Centura. He graduated from Centura High School in 1979 and upon graduation, Chad worked at Redman Mobile Homes.



On September 10, 1983, Chad was united in marriage to Jolene Peters at the Zion Lutheran Church in Worms, NE. After their marriage the couple lived in Cairo. He worked at Amerigold, Country General, Thompson Company/US Foods, and most recently at Ace Hardware. He also owned and operated Osburn Sharpening and Small Engine Repair for 36 years.



Chad was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in many community organizations. He was a member of the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and was one of the founding members of the Cairo Quick Response Team. He also started the Cairo Junior Fire Patrol Program which went to schools to educate about fire safety. Chad and Terry Robertson were the primary participants in the restoration of the 1936 Dodge Fire Truck, one of the original fire trucks owned by the Cairo Fire Department. Chad was an assistant football coach at Centura and started the youth football camp. He coached his sons' little league baseball teams and was involved in many sports events. Chad and Jolene also were Cub Masters for many years.



Chad was known as Mr. Fix-it and knew a little bit about how to fix anything. He enjoyed all types of music, watching Husker Football, Sci-Fi movies, and watching the grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors, spontaneous road trips with his wife and riding his Harley. Chad was known for his outstanding hand-crafted Christmas displays.



Survivors of the family include his wife, Jolene; two sons Jason (Crissy) Osburn of Cairo, Jared (Halie) Osburn of Lincoln; grandchildren Athena, Madeline, Caleigh, Derek, Bryden, Ayden, Emalee; brothers Wade (Amy) Osburn, Randy Osburn, Bret (Christy) Osburn all of Cairo; brother-in-law Dave Hardenberger of Cairo; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and granddogs Meatwad, Ghost, and Roman.



Chad Osburn was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Hardenberger. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
