Cecilia nació el 11 de enero de 1960 en Quezaltepeque, La Libertad, El Salvador a Pastor A. Hernández y Eduarda Lucero Mina. Ella creció en El Salvador y luego se mudó al sur de California en 1982. Completó sus estudios en el Complejo Educativo Católico San Jose en Quezaltepeque.

Cecilia se unió en matrimonio a Francisco Madrigal en diciembre de 1984 en la parroquia Mary Immaculate Catholic Church en Pacoima, CA. Después, la pareja vivió en Van Nuys, CA junto con sus dos hijos Francisco Eduardo y Anna Elizabeth. La familia se mudó a Grand Island, NE en el año 1997.

Ella era miembro de la Catedral Santa María donde dirigió el coro por muchos años. A Cecilia le gustaba asistir la misa a diario, viajar y encontrar aventuras y visitar a amistades. Una de sus pasiones fue ayudar a personas llenar sus documentos de inmigración. Le encantaba descubrir iglesias católicas no muy frecuentadas o escondidas dentro del campo o pueblitos e ir a rezar. Le gustaba mucho leer, especialmente literatura católica y escribir. A Cecilia le gustaba mucho cantar alabanzas y tocar su guitarra. Amó a toda su familia y pasaba tiempo con ellos. Cecilia admiraba la creación de Dios en las cosas pequeñas y simples, y siempre procuró dar a los que estaban en necesidad. Intentó siempre vivir en constante alabanza al Padre Celestial. Sobre todo, Cecilia amó a Cristo.

Le sobreviven: su esposo de 41 años de matrimonio, Francisco Madrigal-Ayala de Grand Island; sus hijos: Violeta Lourdes Madrigal Lucero, Cecilia Guadalupe Madrigal De Meléndez, Carmen Isabel Madrigal Lucero (todas de Quezaltepeque, El Salvador), Francisco E. Madrigal de Grand Island, Anna E. (Madrigal) Long de Grand Island; diez nietos: Fernando Jose Meléndez Madrigal, Oscar Eduardo Meléndez Madrigal, Eunice Isabel Madrigal Lucero, Aaron C. Jaquez-Madrigal, Francisco Schweigert, Aryana Jaquez-Madrigal, William A. Long, Maximiliano I. Long, Agatha L. Long, Santiago T. Long; Una bisnieta, Thalia A. Madrigal; un hermano, Santiago E. Lucero Hernández; su prima, Ana Miriam Mina; su Segunda prima, Ana Margarita (Mina) Allen; muchos cuñado/as en el Distrito Federal de Mexico, Michoacán, Colima y California.

Cecilia fue precedida por su madre, Eduarda Lucero Mina.


Cecilia Madrigal, 65, a resident of Grand Island, NE, passed away on December 15, 2025, at her home. Her husband and daughter were by her side.

The funeral mass will be held on December 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. Father Jorge Canela will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, December 19th with the rosary beginning at 7:00 PM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Cecilia was born on January 11, 1960, in Quezaltepeque, La Libertad, El Salvador, to Pastor A. Hernández and Eduarda Lucero Mina. She grew up in El Salvador and later moved to Southern California in 1982. She completed her studies at the San José Catholic Educational Complex in Quezaltepeque.

Cecilia married Francisco Madrigal in December 1984 at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Pacoima, CA. The couple then lived in Van Nuys, CA, where they had their two children, Francisco Eduardo and Anna Elizabeth. The family moved to Grand Island, NE, in 1997.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, where she directed the spanish choir for many years. Cecilia enjoyed attending daily Mass, traveling and adventuring, and visiting friends. One of her passions was helping people fill out their immigration paperwork. She loved discovering Catholic churches tucked away in small towns or in the country and going there to pray. She loved reading, especially Catholic books, and writing. She loved playing her guitar and singing, especially faith-filled songs. Cecilia enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them all very much. Cecilia admired God's creation in the small and simple things, and she always strived to give to those in need. She always tried to live in constant praise. Above all, Cecilia loved Christ.

She is survived by: her husband of 41 years of marriage, Francisco Madrigal-Ayala of Grand Island; her children: Violeta Lourdes Madrigal Lucero, Cecilia Guadalupe Madrigal De Melendez, Carmen Isabel Madrigal Lucero, all of Quezaltepeque, El Salvador, Francisco E. Madrigal of Grand Island, Anna E. (Madrigal) Long of Grand Island; ten grandchildren: Fernando Jose Melendez Madrigal, Oscar Eduardo Melendez Madrigal, Eunice Isabel Madrigal Lucero, Aaron C. Jaquez-Madrigal, Francisco Schweigert, Aryana Jaquez-Madrigal, William A. Long, Maximiliano I. Long, Agatha L. Long, Santiago T. Long; one great-granddaughter, Thalia A. Madrigal; one brother, Santiago E. Lucero Hernández; her cousin, Ana Miriam Mina; her second cousin, Ana Margarita (Mina) Allen; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in Mexico City, Michoacán, Colima (Mexico) and California.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her mother, Eduarda Lucero Mina.
