Carol Margaret Howard was born December 4, 1949, to Paul and Margaret (Carlson) Howard in Sioux City, IA. She and her family lived briefly in South Sioux City, NE, and then her father was transferred to Bellevue, NE. After a short stay there, they were transferred to Grand Island where she lived until her death.

Carol attended West Lawn Elementary, Walnut Junior High, and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1968. She attended Hastings College and earned a BA degree with a journalism major in 1972. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

After graduating from college, she worked at the Independent, First National Bank, and the 911 Emergency Center. She retired in 2010, after 35 years of service as a dispatcher.

Carol excelled as a seamstress and quilter. She sewed for herself and others, and at one time she sewed for Needle in the Haystack. She made many quilts for her family and sewed drapes and curtains for her home. She remodeled her home, refinished furniture, and recovered chairs. She took pride in her home which was featured in the Alpha Sigma’s Holiday Tour of Homes. She also sewed prairie clothes for Stuhr Museum’s Mercantile.

Carol loved antiques and enjoyed garage sales and the Junk Jaunt. She was always repurposing a special find. She gardened and loved to watch Nebraska football games.

In 2010, Carol was diagnosed with dementia, but was able to stay in her home until January 2017 when she moved to Country House. There she participated in many activities and continued to keep busy.

Carol is survived by her sister: Beverly Logue of Grand Island; nephews: Ryan (sandy) Logue of Phillips, NE, Andrew (Jamie) Logue of Grand Island, Jason Logue of Albuquerque, NM; great nephews: Riley, Braeden, Alec, Gavin, and Andrew, Jr.; great nieces: Madeline and Mackenzie; numerous cousins; and aunt: June Lockwood of Sioux City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law: Ron Logue numerous aunts and uncles.

Carol’s family wishes to express their thanks to the dedicated and caring staff of Country House and Tabitha Hospice. It was a long, difficult journey, and we could not have made it to the end without them.
