Bernice Marie Wiese

Bernice M. Wiese, 87, of Grand Island, NE, died on January 26, 2024, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Resurrection Catholic Church. The Rev. Dave Rykwalker will be the celebrant. A private family burial will be held at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, NE. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 P.M. concluding with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. She was born on April 22, 1936, at Spalding, NE to Charles and Julia (Klein) New. She grew up in the Spalding area and received her education from Cedar Rapids, NE graduating in 1953. Bernice was united in marriage to Vermoyne Wiese on April 22, 1978, at Lake Andes, SD. After which the couple lived in Grand Island, NE where she worked as a bookkeeper and completed taxes for several businesses in the area. 

Bernice loved living on her farm and was an avid wildlife and bird watcher. She was a Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan. She read many books during her lifetime. Bernice and Vermoyne hosted Thanksgiving dinner for their extended family for many years. The family has many memories of the holiday and spending special times with them at the farm. Many walks looking for wildlife, climbing trees, shooting blue rock, assembling a windmill, and chasing cows, dogs, and cats were all activities had at the farm. Bernice was blessed with her loving family, farming community friends, and her church family. 

She is survived by many of her nieces and nephews. 

Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Vermoyne Wiese; parents; brothers: Chuck, Tom, and Jim New; and sisters: Dorothy Carlson and Doris Kraus.
