Arlene Eleanor Dockhorn

Arlene Eleanor Dockhorn December 25, 1939 — May 11, 2026 Grand Island Arlene Dockhorn, 86, of Grand Island, NE died on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Monday, May 18, at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with Pastor Carl Eliason officiating. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday at Apfel Funeral Home from 2-4 pm. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

 Arlene was born on December 25, 1939, in Ravenna, NE to Walter and Eleanor (Ninke) Schinkel. She grew up in Rockville and attended school in both Rockville and Grand Island. She was united in marriage to Darr Albert Dockhorn on February 14, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church. After which the couple lived in Grand Island.

 Arlene was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and making crafts. More than anything she loved spending time with her children, grand-kids, great grandkids, and playing games with her family. 

She is survived by her children: Darlene Dockhorn, Shari (Steve) Nunn, Darr Jr. Dockhorn, Tammy (Troy) Nelson, Kurt (Jackie Fisher) Dockhorn, Darwin (Lori) Dockhorn, and Tiffani (Robert) Williams; 16 grandchildren: Stephanie, Haley, Ashley, Sarah, Michael, Kimberly, Zach, Natasha, Kacera, Savannah, Steven, Diana, Johnathan, Nathaniel, Eric, and Nicholas; 19 great-grandchildren with two on the way; siblings: Lois Niemoth, Diane Plummer, and Debbie Schinkel. Most importantly, everyone who was special to Arlene was considered family to her.

 Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, Darr Dockhorn; son, Shawn Dockhorn; grandsons: Zach Andrews and Nicholas Osterhoudt; parents, Walter and Eleanor Schinkel; brother, Eric Schinkel; and sister, Norma Dugan.
