Ardyce Arnold, 89, of Shelton died Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Broadwell Senior Living in Kearney. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelton with Pastor Don Pobanz officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 PM on Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Shelton FFA or Shelton Elementary Library. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family. Ardyce was born on March 4, 1936, to Eli and Evelyn (Grossnicklaus) Thomssen in rural Hall County. She grew up and received her elementary education in Hall County. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1953 and went on to earn her teaching degree at Hastings College in 1957. She began teaching in the Grand Island school system in the fall of 1957.
On September 18, 1960, Ardyce was united in marriage to Wayne Arnold at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. After which the couple lived in the Shelton area. In 1964 they moved to the farmstead where they lived for 62 years. Ardyce began substitute teaching in 1962 and moved into full-time teaching until she retired in 1996.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide, and a charter member of Hither and Yon Extension Club. Ardyce liked baking and visiting shut-ins and sharing her goodies with them; she had a servant heart. She believed that cookies or pies were the solutions to problems. She also enjoyed reading and walking, and writing letters.
Survivors include children: Jerry (Becky) Arnold of Gibbon, Leanne (Terry) Hauder of Milford, NE; grandsons: Alex (Eden), Andrew, Logan, Caleb, and Colton; step grandsons: Darren (Chelsea) Jakub, Matt Hunnel; great granddaughter, Charlette; brothers: Eli (Hilde) Thomssen, Darrel (Linda) Thomssen; brother-in-law, Gerald Arnold.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; brother, Neal Thomssen; sisters-in-law: Beverly Arnold and Sue Thomssen.
