Wilma Ann Slemons

Wilma Ann Slemons, 88 of Grand Island, died Friday, July 8, 2016.



Wilma was born on February 29, 1928 to Arthur and Lilly (Rohweder) Henne in Grand Island where she graduated from GI Senior High. She later was united in marriage to John Helleberg in 1952 and made her home in Kearney until he passed away in April of 1969. She returned to Grand Island and was united in marriage to Robert Slemons in August of 1970 until his passing in December 2012.



Wilma was a member of St Pauls Lutheran Church. Active in PEO Chapter GP, Bridge Club, the Library Board in Kearney, and volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was an accomplished cook, loved all animals and the Huskers. She enjoyed golfing, puzzles, bridge and everyone who met her realized quickly what a kind person she was. Wilma was very proud of her family and faithfully supported her two husbands in all of their endeavors.



Survivors include her children, their spouses and children: Jane and Chris Thomson of Lincoln, NE (Hayden and Carter), Jeff and Carol Helleberg of Grand Island (Ross and Jenna), Carl and Deb Helleberg of Fond Du Lac, WI (Adam, Parker, and Laura), Greg and Diane Slemons of Seattle, WA (Ashley and Ryan), Richard and Elizabeth Slemons of Columbus, OH (Michelle, Lydia, and Sarah); and 6 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, spouses, siblings Earl Henne, Delmar Henne, Arlene Izor and Marilyn Rafert.



A memorial service will be held in the chapel at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island on Saturday August 6th at 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers or gifts please send memorials to St Pauls Lutheran Church. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
