Susan M. Smith

Susan M. Smith, 62, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 30, 2018, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.



Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday July 6th at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ron Krause will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday July 5th at the Apfel Funeral Home.



Susan Marlene Smith was born October 16, 1955, at Holdrege, Nebraska to Kenneth and Pearl (Beyersdorf) Asche. She grew up and received her education in Ogallala and Osceola, graduating from Osceola High School.



Susan married Earl Smith on November 3, 1991, at Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island.



Susan did the bookkeeping for her husband’s business for 17 years and was active as a volunteer gardener at Stolley Park. She enjoyed quilting and was an active member of the Prairie Pioneer Quilters of Grand Island. Susan was also active in her gardening club.



She loved her grandchildren dearly, and enjoyed taking in all of their activities.



She is survived by her husband, Earl Smith of Grand Island; sons, Brad Geer of Glenvil, Aaron Geer (Sarah Johnson) of Kearney, and David (Beth) Geer of Dannebrog; daughter, Erica Smith of Grand Island; her parents and step-parents, Kenneth and Ophelia Asche of Ogallala, NE and Jim and Pearl Laycock of Osceola; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Terri Asche; sisters, Debra Brouillette (Scott Richards) and Nancy and John Manweiler; and 10 grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Selma Beyersdorf, and Otto and Louise Asche.



Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
