Hastings resident, Ronald D. McCoy, 67, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Omahas Veterans Hospital; Omaha, NE. Services will be Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 10 AM at the North Shore Assembly of God, with the Rev. Tony Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery, Kenesaw, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home & Cremation and one hour prior to service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Ron was born July 6, 1941 to William Mark and Fern Irene (York) McCoy, in Kenesaw, NE. He graduated in 1959 from Hastings High School in 1959 where he established school score records in basketball. Ron served in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War from May 13, 1968 to July 23, 1969. He married Karen Ann Rutt who passed away October 5, 2000. He was employed by Dutton Lainson Co, followed by a career with Victory Life Insurance Co. He was a faithful member of the North Shore Assembly of God Church where he was active in the Keenagers Group. Ron enjoyed attending various sporting events, especially those involving his nieces and nephews as well as Hastings High School and Hastings College competitions. Rons joys in life were serving his Lord and Savior and attending services regularly at the North Shore Assembly of God Church. Ron was a recipient of a heart transplant on June 23, 1996 and was an active supporter, advocate for the Gift Of Life organ donor program. He is survived by, his mother Fern Irene (York) McCoy, sons, David J. and wife Nelly of Kissimmee, FL, Jeffery Dean and wife Monique of New Orleans, LA, and daughter, Kristin Filkins of Hastings, NE. brothers William E and wife Sharon of Bay City MI, Richard and wife Karen, Jerry and wife Nancy and Randy all of Hastings, NE. Sisters, Jolene Rutt and husband Curt and Glenda Thaut and husband Phillip, all of Hastings, NE. Grandchildren, Ashlie, Karlie, Jacob, T.J. and Nicolas as well as 15 nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was loved a lot and will be greatly missed. Memorials may be given to Caring Hands or the Adams County Veterans Burial Detail. Ron was preceded in death by his wife Karen, his father William Mark McCoy, his grandparents and 1 sister Joyce.
