Robert L. Jensen

Robert Bob Lee Jensen, 86 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at CHI St. Francis Health in Grand Island.



A Gathering of family and friends will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Riverside Lodge (Dining Room). A private Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Scottsbluff, Nebraska YMCA. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.



Robert Lee was born on March 4, 1930 at Dannebrog, NE to Horace and Christina (Williamsen) Jensen. The family lived on Hansen Table, near Callaway, Nebraska for the first 13 years of Bobs life. In 1943, the family moved to Oconto, NE and purchased a department store. Bob worked at the store during high school and also for a local oil company. He graduated from Oconto High School in 1948 and attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Kearney State College.



On August 18, 1949, Bob married Osa Y. Joines at Chadron, NE. At that time, he was employed at the family department store and by D. Best Oil Company. In 1951, Bob became a bulk agent for Standard Oil in Oconto for seven years and later moved to North Platte and then to Grand Island, NE to serve as training station manager and general salesman. He retired from Amoco Oil in 1972 as Territory Manager in the central Nebraska area. For the next 15 years, Bob sold real estate and insurance in the Grand Island area. Bob and Osa moved to Arizona in 1988 for two years and then relocated to Scottsbluff, NE (1990) and returned to Grand Island in 2011.



Bob was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. He enjoyed gardening (his tomatoes and onions were world class), fishing, and traveling the United States.



Bob is survived by his wife, Osa Jensen of Grand Island, five daughters, Gwen (Kevin) Westlund of Weyerhaeuser, WI, Sue Jensen of Grand Island, Julie (Bob) Smith of Roanoke, VA, Marcia Jensen of Omaha, Janet Jensen (Gary Nabity) of Omaha; one son, Robert D. (Chris) Jensen of Pacific Junction, IA; 13 grandchildren, Grant, Meghan, Curt, Beth, Christopher, Jenny, Katie, Nick, Michaela, Joseph, Shaye, Alex, and Jesse; three great-grandchildren, Nolan, Madison, and Callie.



Bob was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dwayne, Hervey, Russel, and Gordon and a great-grandson, Jacob.
