Former Hastings resident. Rita Ann Hiber, age 87, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Sunny Brook Assisted Living in Carroll, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Cecilias Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Joseph Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be 12:45 PM till service time Friday at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brandwilson.com. Born on April 5, 1923 at Omaha, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Patrick and Sue (Finn) McGovern. She grew up in Omaha and graduated from Holy Name High School and the College of St. Mary. She was married to Richard J. Hiber on August 3, 1946 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Omaha. Mr. Hiber owned and operated Hiber Jewelry Store in Hastings and Rita worked as a bookkeeper for McBride Vision Clinic for many years until retiring at age 82. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll and St. Cecilias Catholic Church in Hastings. Rita was an avid Nebraska Corn Husker fan and she was a member of the Lochland Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, watching Fr. Corrappi on EWTN, cheering on the Huskers, and the many new friends she met while living at Sunny Brook in Carroll. Surviving are her three daughters: Susan Colgan and her husband Steve of Rapid City, South Dakota, Cathy Greteman and her husband Mike of Carroll; and Patti Hawkins and her husband Fred Sr. of Omaha; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister Sister Patrice McGovern O.P. of Dubuque; a brother Joe McGovern and his wife Kay of Chicago; and a sister Patty McGovern of Omaha; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
