Richard L. Geist

Richard L. Geist, Sr., 86, of Grand Island died Monday, September 12, 2016, at home following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be Friday at 10:30 A.M. in the Grand Island Cemetery. The Rev. David Butz will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Richard Lee Geist, Sr. was born June 7,1930, at Grand Island to Jacob and Marie (Adler) Geist. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School.

Richard was married to Barbara Richeal in South Dakota. The couple made their home in Grand Island where Richard worked for John Clausen & Sons as a foreman. He later started his own masonry business in 1972. He retired in 1996.

Richard was a member of the United Congregational Church. He enjoyed singing with the Conestoga Choir.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Geist of Grand Island; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Marsha Geist, Russ and Lisa Geist and Rick and Tami Geist all of Grand Island; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.

Memorials are suggested to the United Congregational Church.
