Ralph A. Cynova

November 10, 1925 — June 27, 2018

Ralph A. Cynova, 92, of Grand Island passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island with his family by his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, July 2, 2018, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Reverend Martin Egging officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM at the church with a Wake service beginning at 6 PM. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or donor’s choice.



Ralph was born November 10, 1925, at Ashton, Nebraska, the son of Alexander and Clara (Grudzinski) Cynova. He grew up and attended schools in Sherman County. He enlisted in the Army in 1944. He received training at Denver, CO, as a Surgical Technician, He served in Europe with the 83rd Hospital Train Unit. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946. He was extremely proud of his service during WWII.



On May 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to Bernice Rohatsch at Platte Center, Nebraska. They first lived in Columbus, where he owned and operated Ralph’s Champlin Service Station. To this union four children were born. In 1961, the family moved to Grand Island. He was employed as a truck driver and also drove for Old Home Bakery. He began working for Union Pacific in 1967. He retired from Union Pacific in 1989, after over 21 years of service,



Ralph is survived by two sons and the8ir wives: Andrew and Kathy Cynova of North Platte, and Gary and Kay Cynova of Grand Island; five grandchildren: Chris, Laura, and Michele Cynova, Brian Frazier and Sandy Wolf; five great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Dale Matousek of St. Paul and Dave Evans of CO; as well as many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Bernice, an infant daughter: Leann; son: Michael; six brothers: Andrew, Bruno, David, Daniel, Leon, and an infant brother; three sisters: Rosie, Cecelia, and Fran.
