Grand Island resident, Phyllis Arzetta Mack, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Grand Island Veterans Home, Grand Island, NE. Services will be Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church, Hastings, NE with the Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Friday, March 26, 2010 from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE and one hour prior to service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Phyllis was born December 27, 1922 to Robert Harve and Sarah (Christensen) Mann in Hastings, NE. She graduated from the Kenesaw High School in 1940 and attended Josephs College of Beauty graduating in 1941. She then worked for Elsie Dalton at the Daltonette Beauty Shop in Hastings, NE. She married Howard Mack on August 1, 1942 in Minden, NE. Phyllis has lived in Hastings most of her life coming from Kenesaw, NE, moving to the Grand Island Veterans Home with Howard in the summer of 2009. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Church Circle, and the United Methodist Woman all in Hastings, NE. She was a 4-H Leader, Girl Scouts and Brownies Leader, a charter member of the Hastings Quilters Guild and a member of the Health and Home Extension Club. Phyllis loved to quilt. She is survived by, her husband, Howard of Grand Island, NE, 2 daughters, Marcia Shane and husband Tom of Hastings, NE, and Peggy Helms and husband John E. of Grand Island, NE, 5 grandchildren, Lisa Mertens and husband Bob, Laurie Murphy and husband Paul, Daniel Shane and wife Gloria, Christopher Helms and wife Shennon and Jennifer Bradley and husband Max, and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 great grandson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Home Instead Senior Care, both in Hastings, NE.
