Patricia Filbin

Patricia Pat Filbin, 81, of Wood River died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 30, 2013 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Wood River with Rev. James Janovec officiating. Interment will be at St. Marys Cemetery west of Wood River. Visitation will be at St. Marys Catholic Church on Sunday evening from 4 to 6 pm with a 6 pm Rosary Service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Central Nebraska Humane Society. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.

Pat was born on July 3, 1932 at Gibbon, Nebraska, the daughter of Emil and Anna (Kriha) Novotne. She grew up in Gibbon and Ravenna, graduating from Ravenna High School in 1949.

Pat was united in marriage to Richard Filbin on August 2, 1956 in Shelton. The couple lived in Wood River. Pat was a Rural Postal Carrier for the USPS. After her retirement she workded and volunteered numerous hours with the Salvation Army.

Pat was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Wood River, the American Legion Womens Auxiliary, and the St. Marys Altar Society. Pat loved reading, gardening and her cats Bitsy and Boo.

Pat is survived by three daughters, Michelle and husband Larry Irish of Johnson Lake, NE, Cindy Filbin of Kansas City, MO, and Lisa Filbin and fianc Greg Kantaras of Wood River, two grandsons, Jestin and Zieth Summers, and a special aunt, Rose Kriha Hauschild of Portland, OR.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 1991, her parents Emil and Anna Novotne, and a brother James Novotne.
