Osa Yvonne Jensen

Osa Y. Jensen, 86 of Grand Island died Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in Wood River, Nebraska.



The family will greet friends 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 15 2017 at Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. Inurnment of the ashes will be at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway, NE. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memorials are suggested to Asera Care Hospice.



Osa Yvonne (Joines) Jensen was born September 13, 1930 at Callaway, NE the daughter of Clarence and Florence (Ransley) Joines. Osas early childhood years were spent in the Tuckerville and Oconto areas. She graduated from Oconto High School in 1947 and attended UNL and Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha, NE.



On August 18, 1949, Osa married Robert L. Jensen at Chadron, NE. Their home was Oconto, NE until 1958 when they moved to North Platte and then to Grand Island in 1959. During the years while her family was growing and in school, Osa was very active in PTA, served as room mother, Girl Scout leader and church youth leader.



In 1975, Osa received a nursing degree from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and in 1980 she received a Bachelor of Science- Nursing degree from UNMC. She was employed by hospitals in Grand Island, NE, Youngtown, AZ and Scottsbluff, NE for the next 25 years.



Osa was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Grand Island. Her interests were her family, travel and fishing with her husband, cross word puzzles and reading.



Osa is survived by five daughters, Gwen (Kevin) Westlund of Weyerhaeuser, WI; Sue Jensen of Grand Island, NE; Julie (Robert) Smith of Roanoke, VA; Marcia Jensen of Omaha; Janet Jensen (Gary Nabity) of Omaha, NE; one son, Robert D. Jensen (Chris) of Pacific Junction, IA. Thirteen grandchildren include Grant, Meghan, Curt, Beth, Christopher, Jennie, Katie, Nick, Michaela, Joseph, Shaye, Alex and Jessie; four great grandchildren include Nolan, Madison, Callie and Julianne. Also surviving are two sisters, Sylvia Shea of Broken Bow and June (Eldon) Cornish of Colorado Springs, CO.



Osa was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Travis; and a great grandson, Jacob.
