Nancy Ann Ciemnoczolowski

June 26, 1924 — April 27, 2022

Nancy A. Ciemnoczolowski, 97, of Grand Island, formerly of Wood River, died Wednesday April 27, 2022, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.



Funeral services at 10:30 AM Tuesday May 3rd at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Jorge Canela will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.



Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday May 2nd at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River with a 7:00 PM Rosary with coffee following. Apfel Funeral home is assisting the family.



Nancy A Ciemnoczolowski was born June 26, 1924, at Ravenna, NE to Charles and Lucy (McDonald)

Bachkora.



She graduated from Ravenna High School and the University of Nebraska Lincoln with a BA in Home Economics. She was a 4-year Union Pacific scholar, high school salutatorian and rarely mentioned her many academic achievements.



Nancy married Joe Ciemnoczolowski on Nov 23, 1946. They were devoted to each other for over 61 years, having met as teenagers. They made their home and raised their children near Wood River. Nancy worked as a librarian at the school of nursing and in the administration offices at St Francis Medical Center in Grand Island for 28 years.



She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Wood River, the Altar Society and Graduate Home Economics.



Nancy loved sewing, cross stitching, flower gardening, books, fine clothing and Kolaches!



Survivors are three daughters, Mary Zmarzly (Michael) of Lincoln. Ruth Ciemnoczolowski (James Keller) and Betty Ciemnoczolowski both of Omaha. Two sons Mike Ciemnoczolowski (Delphine) of Kearney, John Ciemnoczolowski (Becky) of Juniata. 12 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grand Children and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, daughter and son in law, Merritt and Rose White, and infant daughter Rita.



Special thanks to Gordon, Cindy, Rose and Eric Bredthauer who were the family of her heart.



Thanks to the wonderful staff at Tiffany Square who made the last year of her life safe and comfortable. You made her feel like a princess!



Bless her dear friend Father Canela who was a source of great joy and comfort.
