Mona Morris Labarr

At Our Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home, Harvard, NE. Harvard resident, Mona Morris LaBarr, 86, passed away, Sunday, December 20, 2009, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, NE. Services will be Monday, December 28, 2009 at 2 PM at the Alberding-Wilson Chapel, Harvard, NE with the Rev. Dorothy Aspegren officiating. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery, Harvard, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Mona was born October 26, 1923 to Jerry Thomas and Nora Belle (Nix) Morris in Ft. Summer, NM. The family lived briefly in Colorado and Utah but early in her childhood they settled in Lebam, WA, where she graduated high school in 1941. She attended college in Pullman, WA, Seattle, WA and took drafting class sponsored by Boeing. She worked for Boeing Aircraft during World War II. It was while living in Seattle that she met Harry A. LaBarr, Jr. a young Navy seaman from Iowa. They were married January 26, 1948 in Clarion, Iowa and lived in Eagle Grove, Iowa until 1962. In 1962 they moved to Hastings, NE and then to Harvard, NE where they lived for 44 years. Mona was a loving wife and mother. She was a good cook, liked to read and listen to music and was very interested in genealogy, tracing several family names back through 14 generations, she was the Harvard librarian from 1975 to 1980, retiring due to rheumatoid arthritis. She is survived by 4 daughters, Nora LaBarr and Penny LaBarr both of Hastings, NE, Madeline (Meg) Kruse and husband Richard of Harvard, NE, and Trudy LaBarr of Mason City, Iowa, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry of 60 years, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation or to the family.
