Mary M. Garris

Mary M. Garris, 80, of Grand Island died Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.



Private family services will be held on Thursday at the Apfel Funeral Home. The Rev. Bev Hieb will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.



Mary M. Garris was born February 17, 1940, at Grand Island to Emil H. and Helen M. (Yeoman) Stoppkotte. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1958. Mary later attended beauty school.



Mary married Stanley B. Garris, Jr. on June 4, 1959, in Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island where they raised their family.



Mary worked for 20 years as the price coordinator for Skagway. She retired in March of 2004.



Mary was an avid Nebraska fan and enjoyed sewing and gardening.



Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Bobbie Garris; two daughters, Cindy Garris and Pamela Schaller all of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Garris, Jr.; brother, Bob Stoppkotte; and son-in-law, Todd Schaller.
