Marjorie E. Jensen

Marjorie E. Jensen, 91, of Grand Island died Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the Perkins Pavilion of the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Dale Phillips will officiate. Private family committal services at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery will precede the memorial services. There will be no visitation. Marjorie was born January 14, 1922, at Hordville, Nebraska to Hugo and Letha (Friend) Person. She graduated from Polk High School in 1938, and then attended Friend College in Central City, Nebraska. She taught in a local rural school until her marriage to Maynard L. Jensen on September 1, 1944. The couple lived in the Polk/Hordville area for a time before moving to a farm in the Shelton/Wood River area. They then moved to Grand Island in 1975. Marjorie graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1961. She taught in District 24, Wood River, Cairo, and the last 25 years at Jefferson Elementary in Grand Island. She retired in 1987. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA and NSEA Retired and Faith United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathleen and Harry Haverly and Patrice Jensen all of Hastings; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Janice Jensen of Olatlhe, Kansas. Additional survivors include five grandchildren, Molly Jensen of Louisville, Colorado, Julie Anderson of Kansas City, MO, Michael Jensen of Olathe, Kansas, Diana Schergin of Omaha, Nebraska and Katherine Scott of Decorah, Iowa; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard; one sister, Jean Bjorkman; two brothers, Kenneth Person and Wayne Person; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Bjorkman; and a sister-in-law, Rosella Person. Memorials are suggested to the familys choice.
