Hastings resident, Marion D. Gillilan, 94 passed away Friday, December 4, 2009 at his home. Services will be Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 10 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil, NE with the Rev. Jeff Glawe officiating. Burial will be in the Hardy Cemetery, Hardy NE at 2 PM, Thursday. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Marion was born, April 28, 1915 to Joseph and Sarah (Davidson) Gillilan on a farm near Republic, Kansas. He graduated from the Hardy High School in 1933 he then attended Peru State College. He married Thelma Martens on October 14, 1937 in Benedict, NE she passed away November 17, 1995. He was a post office clerk in Hardy, NE, from 1937 to 1940. They moved to California in 1940 and did various defense work till 1946. They moved back to Hardy, NE in 1946 to work on the family farm until around 1960. He managed the Hardy Coop from 1960 to 1964. They moved to Hastings in 1964 and he worked for Farmland Industries Fertilizer Plant until retiring in 1979. Marion was a member of the community club and school board in Hardy, NE. He served on the board of 3 different church councils. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil, NE. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl K. Hipple and husband Rev. Elwood of Paxton, NE, sister-in-law, Ione Martens of Grand Island, NE. Nieces and nephews, Judy Frame of Smithville, MO, Carol Sue Martin and husband Larry of Jefferson City, MO, Mary Lue Phillips and husband Jerry, of Bellingham, WA, Joe Gillilan and wife Connie of Hardy, NE, Jon Gillilan of Wichita, KS, Sue Heffner of North Platte, NE, Sally Anderson and husband Greg of Grand Island, Ne and Mary Stauffer and husband Leon of Lexington, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma, 2 brothers, Hugh and Orland Gillilan, brother-in-law, Irvin Martens, and sister-in-law, Lorraine Rhoads. Memorials may be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil, NE or the American Heart Association.
