Hastings resident, Marilyn Mae (Harder) Hodson, 71, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009 at her home. A family memorial will follow at a later date in keeping with Marilyn's request for no service. She request for each person to spend time performing an act of kindness for someone. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements. Marilyn was born August 4, 1938 to William and Evelyn (Webb) Harder in Sioux City, Iowa. She married James Hodson on April 14, 1959. They lived in Louisiana, Iowa and then moved to Hastings, NE in 1997. Marilyn found great pleasure in volunteering her time to help those less fortunate. She sponsored the education and care of children in third world countries and was especially generous in her aid to African children. In these efforts she traveled to Uganda to meet the children she sponsored. At home she volunteered in her church and community and was an inspiration to those around her. Marilyn enjoyed making and collecting dolls, caring for animals she rescued and supporting her grandchildrens many activities. She is survived by her husband James, her mother and step-father, Evelyn and Robert Schroeder, 2 children, 1 daughter, Gloriann Peddicord and husband Steve and 1 son, Jeff Hodson and wife Lori all of Hastings, NE. 5 grandchildren, Kayla, Jade, Jalynda, Christian and Jacob. 1 brother, Roger and Vivian Harder of Sioux City, Iowa, 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, and a sister, Linda Darlene Grotjohn. Memorials may be given to the Compassion International, 12290 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921.
