Loren 'John' Colwell

At Our Alberding-Wilson Location, Harvard, NE. Harvard resident, Loren John Colwell, 82, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at his home. Services will be Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 11 AM at the Harvard, United Methodist Church, Harvard, NE with the Rev. Dale Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Harvard Cemetery, Harvard, NE. Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2008 from 12 noon to 9 PM at the Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home, Harvard, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. John was born November 30, 1925 to Lowell and Madge (Leach) Colwell in Maitland, MO. He attended school in Andrew and Nodaway County, MO. He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945, serving in the European theater. In 1949 he married Joan Marquardt in Hastings, NE. He worked for R.B. Clark Garage until 1950; he then worked at the Hastings Ammo Depot. John and Joan moved to Harvard, NE in 1956. In 1959 they moved to California where he drove a street sweeper. In 1961 they moved back to Harvard, NE and he again worked for the Ammo Depot until 1965, when the depot was closed. He then transferred to Vallejo, California and worked there until December of 1980, when he retired and they moved to MO. eventually settling back in Harvard, NE where he was co-owner of the Colwell Oil Co. His wisdom and quick wit will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife Joan, of Harvard,2 daughters, Linda Mitchell of LasVegas, Nevada, and Bonnie Jensen and husband Gordon of Grand Island, NE, 2 sons Russell Colwell of Harvard, NE, and Stephen of Roy, Utah. 7 Grandchildren, Michael Mitchell and wife Lindsey of Henderson, NV, Dawn Mitchell of LasVegas, Nevada, Sarah Colwell of LasVegas, Nevada, Jessica Colwell of Grand Island, NE, Loren Colwell of Fairfield, California, John Doucet and family of Roy, Utah, and Christine Doucet and children of Santa Rosa, California, 4 Great grandchildren, DAngelo Mezzacappa of Harvard, NE, MaryAnne and Alexis Wagner of LasVagas, Nevada, and Melia Gosten of LasVegas, Nevada and special friend James K. Turner of LasVegas, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 sisters, Carol Sterner, Doris Arn, and Betty Pryor 2 brothers, Bobby and Oren Colwell, son in law, James Mitchell, and grandson Jimmy Mezzacappa. Memorials may be given to donors choice.
