Loran W. Tilley

Loran W. Tilley, 76, of Grand Island died Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Pastor Bill Rowland will officiate. Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Apfel Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Beacon of Hope Baptist Church.

Loran William Tilley was born September 21, 1942, at Central City, NE to Ralph and Ethel (Bice) Tilley. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1961. He continued his education at Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, SD, graduating in 1965.

Loran married Marlene Hasey in 1966, and divorced in 1976. Loran then married the love of his life, Kay Wondercheck on September 24, 1977.

Loran coached and taught mathematics in Riverton, Wyoming, and also worked at the Uranium Mines in Wyoming before returning to Grand Island in 1976. He then worked in the warehouse at Nash Finch Wholesale and part-time at Overhead Door.

He attended the Beacon of Hope Baptist Church.

Loran enjoyed planting and maintaining his huge produce garden, and selling at the Farmers Markets; and also working on his farm, and traveling, but more than anything spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.



He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kay of Grand Island; children, Daron and Kitty Wondercheck of Overland Park, KS; Todd and Kamla Tilley of San Diego, CA; Doresa Wondercheck and Paul Rodriguez of San Antonio TX; Ami and Tom Burns of Charlotte, NC; Dalyn and Jeremy Powell of Lincoln, NE; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Donald and Gwen Tilley of Lincoln; grandchildren, Brielle Wondercheck, Harper Tilley, Emerson Tilley, Beckett Tilley, Erin Burns, Jaron Burns, Tristin Sloat, Chase Sloat, Charasten Lambrecht, Jackson Powell, Taylor Powell, and Brody Powell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Devron Wondercheck, and foster brother Alvin Glover.
