Lloyd L. Vodehnal

Lloyd “Vodie” Vodehnal, 96, of Grand Island died Saturday, February 16, 2019 at St. Francis Medical Center. Memorial service will be 11 AM Friday February 22, 2019, at Apfel Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Jones officiating with Military Honors. A gathering of family and friends will be 4-7 PM Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home. There will be no viewing as Lloyd gifted his body for medical education and scientific research. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.



Lloyd was born February 11, 1923, at Ord, NE to John and Frances (Ptacnik) Vodehnal. He grew up in Ord and attend school in Ord; graduating from Fullerton High School in 1940.

In January 1943, Lloyd entered the United States Army, serving in the European Theatre. He was honorably discharged in January 1946.



Lloyd married Lucille Langan on June 5, 1950. After which the couple lived in Grand Island where Lloyd worked various jobs including the Ordnance Plant, managing the VFW Club, and Montfort/Swift for 10 years.



Lloyd loved playing cards daily at the Platt Duetsche which he called “The Office”, watching Western movies, and spending time with family and friends. He had a unique wit and sense of humor.



Survivors include children: Jeff (Barb) Vodehnal of Grand Island, Lisa (Carl) Edwards of Las Vegas, NV, Lynn Lindquist of Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Joan Vodehnal of Grand Island; and numerous nieces and nephews.



Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; son: Tommy Vodehnal; and ten siblings.
